Research On The Design Of The Under-eaves Space Of Traditional Chinese Architecture

The space under the eaves is a functional space that belongs to the concept of "grey space".The space that does not exist" expresses the art of "trade-off".In the long history,the space under the eaves has participated in all aspects of people’s life through various forms of carriers,and has always played an irreplaceable role in people’s daily life,business and leisure,cultural expression,interpersonal communication,etc.A sense of "open domain" and "readability" of life,why is the spatial sequence of traditional Chinese architecture so fascinating,and the arrangement of virtual and real spaces between the space under the eaves and the interior space is a logical factor that cannot be ignored.This paper is divided into six chapters: the first chapter is the basic theory,and the second to sixth chapters respectively focus on "where does the space under the eaves come from","what is there" in the space,and "what is" in the architectural system in traditional Chinese architecture,"what’s the use" and "how to use" by contemporary designers,carry out a gradual analysis from micro to macro,from traditional to contemporary.The author starts from the forming background and historical context of "space under the eaves",takes environmental behavior and space typology as the theoretical basis,and conducts a research on the concept of space in traditional Chinese architectural design through the reverse research idea from effect to cause.Analyze,sort out and discuss its related form carriers and combination methods in the traditional Chinese architectural system with examples.Through the horizontal comparison of the same type of space,it analyzes the structural logic expressed in it;and then summarizes how its homogeneity and difference affect architecture.From a contemporary perspective,with the positive research idea from cause to effect,it analyzes the relevant architectural cases in China’s modern and contemporary architectural works that reflect the spirit of the space under the eaves.The function,aesthetics,economy,and ethics of the space under the eaves are used to illustrate the feasibility of this design behavior,the necessity of place creation,and the diversity of design methods,and point out that the space spirit of the space under the eaves of traditional Chinese architecture has an impact on today’s modern architecture.The design expression of architectural-related places has important guiding significance.All in all,the purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of the role of such space in traditional Chinese architecture to the overall architectural construction logic through the study of the space under the eaves,and its irreplaceable role in the interaction between man,architecture and nature.The value of the space under the eaves itself and the way of formal dialogue with other spaces are discussed for the research necessity of contemporary and future architectural design.
