With the improvement of transportation structure, the railway freight transportation of China develops rapidly. The proportion of railway freight transportation volume increases of the total freight transportation volume from 7.81% to 9.63% during 2018-2020.At the same time,in order to promote the mutual adaptation of railway capacity supply and transport demand to seek sustainable development of transport and economy, the state continues to promote the large-scale construction of railway network. At present, there are significant differences in supply scales of regional railway. The umbalanced development of regional economy and the differences of transportation structure result in the significant distinctions of regional freight demand. In addition, some regions are also faced with the transportation capacity shortage or surplus. Therefore, revealing coupling coordination development spatial-temporal features of railway transportation supply and demand with the perspective of regional development is a theoretical propositions and practical problems contributing to the sustainable development of transportation and regional economySupply-demand factors analysis, indicators system construction, coupling coordination calculation and spatial-temporal evolution revealing are the four main steps of this research. From the combined perspective of macro and micro, supply and demand coupling coordination development levels of railway freight transportation of31 provinces are calculated according to coupling coordination model.Additionally, characteristics of spatial-temporal evolution are analyzed, which are obtained by the theory of spatial autocorrelation. The conclusions are summarized as follow:(1)The result concerning the development of national railway freight transportation supply and demand explored from the macro prespective indicates that the development about demand and supply of national railway freight market shows two-stage characterostics during 2000-2020.The first stage is capacity shortage and the second stage is demand shortage.Supply-demand coupling coordination level increases consistently over time and is closed to high quality coordination development.(2)The result related to the development of regional railway freight transportation supply and demand explored from the macro prespective indicates that the railway freight supply-demand levels of 31 provinces are improved consistenly.Howerver, there are significant differences in regional development, showing as a spatial decreasing form of radial-step from the start including Hebei,Shanxi,Nei Monggol to the end including Tibet and Hainan.(3)The supply-demand coupling coordination level of regional railway transportation markert shows that the supply-demand coordination level of each province increases over time. The supply-demand coordination level of North China area is high, and the developing speed of Eastern China and Northwest China are rapid.Generally,supply-demand coordination development levels show an obvious spatial gradient distribution that it drops from east to west and from north to south.(4)The spatial evolution of the supply-demand and the coupling coordination development of regional railway freight market indicates that there are evident features of spatial cluster of the coupling development between railway freight supply and demand not as the same as the development of railway freight demand. However, the effects of spatial aggregation characteristics are becoming weak gradually, showing the trend of balanced development between railway freight supply and demand. There are 33 pictures,25 tables and 51 references.
