| With the advancement of large-scale urban construction, the development of Chinese cities and architecture is facing many challenges and problems.China’s architecture history and heritages will provide a possible direction for the construction of Chinese cities and architecture in the future.During exploring local architectural language,Chinese classical gardens are precious resources. From the perspective of architectural phenomenology, this paper analyzes the flowing space in Jiangnan classical garden based on the theory of place spirit. This paper consists of five chapters.Chapter one illustrates the background, significance, object, method and framework of the research. The second chapter summarizes the basic theory of architectural phenomenology and the flowing space, and mainly studies the correlation between the spirit of place and the flowing space,as well as the resources of the spirit of place in Jiangnan classical gardens. All the analysis has build a theoretical foundation for the subsequent research. The third chapter analyzes the expression and characteristics of flowing space in Jiangnan classical gardens from four aspects: boundary, gravity system, continuous streamline and perspectives. It also analyzes how these characteristics reflect the unique spirit of place in gardens. The fourth chapter studies how to use various elements in Jiangnan classical gardens to create this kind of flowing space with place spirit.Chapter five studies whether and how those construction methods can be translated into contemporary architectural practice. The main conclusion of this paper is that the cosmology in Chinese philosophy and traditional culture, the dual relationship between subject and object, the identity of traditional literati and the attachment and nostalgia of farming civilization affect the place spirit of Jiangnan classical gardens. The characteristics of boundary, gravity system, continuous streamline and perspectives in flowing space of Jiangnan classical gardens are helpful to express the spirit of place of gardens. In jiangnan classical gardens, there are many elements that can be used to create flowing spaces, and the combination of these elements follow certain principles; We can translate the flowing construction method in Jiangnan gardens into modern architecture design from various aspects. This paper uses the theory of architectural phenomenology to analyze the flowing space in Jiangnan classical garden, adopting a intersection between the western logical thinking and the Eastern intuitive thinking, trying to analyze the specific space operation mode from the fuzzy garden atmosphere. At the same time, this paper uses many graphical methods to analyze and explain the space in the way of architectural thinking. All these will help us to better understand the Chinese classic gardens, and make use of these heritages into the construction of the buildings and cites of China in the future. |
