Non-motorised trips account for about 40% of total trips in Shijiazhuang,and a variety of canalisation methods,mainly of the reservoir type,have been used in practice,but there has been no more in-depth theoretical discussion or quantitative analysis.Based on the actual drainage work at 50 key intersections,this study uses formula analysis and simulation verification to analyse the methods of calculating the holding capacity of each type of waiting area,the methods of calculating the capacity of direct non-motorised traffic at intersections and the trend of delay development.The main research results and innovations are as follows:(1)The design method for the drainage of secondary crossing non-motorised waiting areas is summarised and classified,the calculation method for the drainage area of the waiting areas is proposed,and the calculation method for the holding capacity of the waiting areas is proposed based on factors such as non-motorised queuing density and pedestrian occupation space.(2)A method for calculating the capacity of non-motorised vehicles travelling straight through intersections under various standby zone conditions is proposed,and the trend of non-motorised vehicle delays after setting up various types of non-motorised vehicle standby zones is investigated.Based on the capacity of the standby zone,non-motorised vehicle arrivals and the capacity of direct non-motorised vehicles,a calculation method for the stock of reservoir-type standby zones is proposed,and a calculation method for the throughput of non-motorised vehicles with the setting of reservoir-type standby zones is also proposed based on the stock of non-motorised vehicle standby zones.(3)Research on the method of setting the non-motorised waiting area.Based on the signal phase sequence condition,saturation condition,accommodation rate condition and land area available,the setting conditions of various types of non-motorised waiting areas were studied in a more systematic manner,the elements of setting non-motorised waiting areas were summarised and concluded,and the guidance control facilities and traffic management related to the setting of waiting areas were clarified.(4)Case study.The intersection of Huai’an West Road and Youyi South Street was used as the research object.Based on the survey data,the type of non-motorized waiting area was determined,and the traffic simulation software was used to analyze the non-motorized delay and throughput data after the setting of the non-motorized waiting area,and the results showed that the setting of the non-motorized waiting area effectively improved the throughput of non-motorized vehicles and reduced the delay of non-motorized vehicles.
