Walkability is an effective means to assess the degree of support for walking in an area, but the current research is mostly applied to the built environment at the urban scale, and most of them use qualitative evaluation as a means, university campuses as research objects, and quantitative analysis and evaluation as a research method. The university campus is a community for teachers and students to teach, live and research, and the pedestrianized campus is conducive to creating a safe and quiet learning environment and promoting interdisciplinary exchanges. In this paper, the walkability research is applied to university campuses, various walkability evaluation methods are analyzed and summarized, the indicators and key points of various evaluation systems are clarified, and finally the walkability index and NEWS-A walkability evaluation are selected as the comprehensive evaluation methods of this study, and they are optimized based on the principles of the two methods so that they can be applied to the campus built environment, which can provide reference significance for further research on the walkability evaluation of university campuses. Finally, taking Zhejiang University as an example, the walkability of three campuses of Zhejiang University was evaluated in turn, and targeted optimization suggestions were given, and it was found that Haining International Campus had the strongest walkability, followed by Yuquan Campus, and Zijingang East District was the worst. At the same time, the case study shows that the walking index calculation method can reflect the actual walking experience, and the effect of using the decay function feature to optimize the facilities is very obvious when the campus planning form is fixed. The NEWS-A evaluation method can also accurately reflect the construction of campus pedestrian environment, which can provide targeted directions for campus walkability optimization.
