In recent years, the world’s container shipping industry has been booming, and container transportation has become a very important mode of transportation in the world’s marine transportation. At the same time, with the RCEP framework,"One Belt,One Road" initiative and other international economic cooperation mechanisms continue to put forward, come into effect and implementation, the world’s supply and demand for goods, container transportation demand continues to increase,China’s ports and shipping enterprises to the outside of the extension and the opening up of the container routes are gradually increasing container transportation for China to bring a generous Import and export trade economy, these cities and even the country’s economic development has produced a very large contribution and impact.Container routes carry a lot of economic benefits, and it is of great significance to study the relationship between container transportation volume of different routes and the amount of city’s import and export trade in order to enhance the economic benefits of the routes laid out by port and shipping enterprises and to promote the healthy development of city’s import and export trade. On the basis of summarizing the relevant literature, this paper combs through the application of VAR model and gray correlation degree method, analyzes the research content related to import and export trade, collates the literature related to the development of ports and cities, and based on the above research,it discusses the definitions and characteristics of the container transportation and container routes, combs through the connotation of the relationship between ports and cities, explains the construction of quantitative analysis methods, and uses this as a basis for the The status quo of 10 types of major container routes in Dalian port, and the status quo of economic and trade development in Dalian city were qualitatively analyzed, and then the relationship between the transportation volume of 10 types of major container routes in Dalian port and the import and export trade volume of Dalian city was quantitatively analyzed by applying Granger causality test of the VAR model, the impulse corresponding analysis, and the ANOVA decomposition, and then the analytical results were supplemented by applying gray correlation degree method. The research conclusions of this paper are:(1)VAR model study found that there are 6types of container routes in Dalian port, namely,European routes,Southeast Asian routes,Korean routes,Japanese routes, internal branch routes and Taiwan routes, which show a certain correlation to the import and export trade volume of Dalian city and positively promote the relationship,in which the Japanese routes have the greatest contribution to the import and export trade volume, followed by Korean routes,Southeast Asian routes and European routes.(2)Gray correlation method research found that all 10 types of routes, the higher degree of correlation of the routes only Korea line has only occurred in the order of change, but the first four are consistent with the conclusions of the VAR model,in addition, the gray correlation method for the VAR model can not be analyzed for the 4 types of container routes, and came up with the conclusion that these 4 types of container routes do not have a high level of impact on the import and export trade volume of Dalian City. The conclusion of this paper is the same as that of the VAR model. Finally, according to the results of qualitative and quantitative analysis, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for the development of various types of container routes, contributing to the adjustment of the route layout of Dalian port and shipping enterprises and improving economic efficiency,as well as advising the development of import and export trade in Dalian.
