| Product development is the lifeline of a technology-based enterprise’s sustainable operation and an important expression of its competitiveness.In an increasingly competitive market,an enterprise’s product development capability maintains its market position in existing areas and determines whether it can expand its market in new areas.Product development process is an important tool for product development management of an enterprise,and the appropriateness of a company’s process is the key to determine the success of new product development.HT,the object of this study,is a state-owned technology-based enterprise,which has laser components and module manufacturing technology and is relatively well-known in the domestic laser industry.In 2014,in order to expand into new markets,it entered the security market,developing infrared laser modules and infrared laser cameras and other products,and later moved on to a series of product development for Io T smart hardware,during which it encountered various problems with new product development,with the success rate of new product development is low and far below the level of the same industry.This paper analyzes the product development process of HT’s infrared laser module,and finds out the problems by means of interview and discussion with the meeting.These problems include lack of market research,imperfect project approval,nonstandard development process management and low working efficiency of developers.Then,using tools such as SWOT analysis,IPD product integrated development,project management and incentive compatibility theory,we analyzed and developed optimization plans for the problems arising from the process.These solutions were to accurately conduct market positioning,set up financial audits at development nodes,establish a product development project management system,and establish a developer incentive system,respectively.The effectiveness of the process optimization was tested by comparing two new product development projects before and after the process optimization.We found that the new process improved employee satisfaction,shortened the product development cycle,and resulted in higher than expected new product market sales.The results of this paper have practical implications for HT’s product development in other projects in the future,and also provide a reference for product development in small and medium-sized technology companies. |
