Urban fringe villages have a strong historical heritage, rich traditional space, unique regional characteristics and beautiful natural landscape resources. At the same time, they have two attribute characteristics of tradition and modernization. They are also the focus of the current urbanization development and the construction of new urbanization. The protection and renewal of urban fringe villages has become one of the important measures to develop characteristic cultural tourism and drive the development of urban fringe economy. At the same time,it injects new vitality into the reconstruction of local residents’ life and the renovation of spatial environment in urban fringe villages. In the current development context of prominent practical problems in urban fringe villages and severe situation of village historical and cultural protection, urban fringe villages urgently need to coordinate the lives of local residents and village culture, and synchronize the rapid development of the city.Based on this background, starting from the needs of residents’ behavior, based on the protection and inheritance of the cultural connotation of urban fringe villages, this paper discusses the generation strategy of urban fringe villages’ lost public space, fully combines the material carrier and non-material culture in the village to stimulate its vitality, and then promotes the renewal and development of urban fringe villages under the construction of new urbanization. In the way of traditional renewal and transformation, more attention is paid to the creation of material space, ignoring the historical and cultural connotation of the village, people’s lifestyle, transportation mode, leisure and entertainment mode and traditional customs and habits. Then, the village space cannot be protected and inherited in essence, but runs counter to its village history and growth track. We should respect its village history, cultural connotation and regional characteristics, and actively explore the renewal strategy of the village traditional space coexisting with urbanization elements.Due to the complexity of the development and evolution of urban fringe villages and the diversified spatial characteristics, the traditional design method of relying on manpower to complete the research, analysis and transformation can not meet the diversified, complex and refined spatial renewal needs. We should find a more reasonable and effective renewal strategy combined with digital technology. This paper takes the public space of villages on the edge of the city as the research object, and takes Daling village in Panyu,Guangzhou as an example.Based on the behavioral needs, this paper simulates the particle swarm activity path to communicate the historical buildings in the site and activate the vitality of the public space.Combining site information, historical buildings, crowd activities and rule algorithms, this paper uses multi-agent system to simulate the shape of public space, and explores the renewal strategy of public space in urban fringe villages based on generative design method,so as to provide new reference for exploring traditional space renewal based on digital technology in the future. This paper aims to establish a digital system of public space by generating design method, formulate relevant rules of behavior and optimization rules by combining the public space characteristics of urban fringe villages, pedestrian activities, historical buildings, residents’ lives and other elements, activate the public space of the site through the interaction between people and historical buildings, public parks, squares and other activity sites, and provide guidance and help for the space renewal of urban fringe villages.
