The advancement of human technology and the development of society have led to a significant improvement in the quality of life and the average life expectancy of people. The world’s population structure also tends to be more and more aging under this trend.Due to the basic national conditions, the situation of population aging in China is even more serious.According to the United Nations, the average growth rate of the world’s elderly population over 60 years old is about 2.5% in the 30 years from1990 to 2020,while the average growth rate of China’s elderly population is as high as3.3%,which is higher than the global average. With the increasing trend of aging, home care has become the mainstream mode of aging in China. The development of emerging concepts such as smart communities has increased the demand for research on the combination of aging in place and smart communities. Therefore,it is important to study the evaluation of the aging-appropriate environment of smart communities. The purpose of this paper is to establish an environmental aging evaluation system suitable for the elderly in smart communities,to evaluate the environmental aging of smart communities in a combination of qualitative and quantitative ways, and to investigate the subsequent aspects that can improve the quality of life of the elderly and meet their physical and mental needs. To achieve this purpose, this paper adopts big data analysis,Arc GIS kernel density analysis and entropy value method through theoretical research and field study, and integrates six typical smart communities in Chaoyang District,Beijing as the research objects. This paper adopts various research methods, including questionnaires, expert interviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis, etc.Through comprehensive analysis of the actual needs and behavioral characteristics of the elderly, and the use of SPSS analysis techniques such as correlation analysis, principal component analysis and regression analysis to verify the rationality of the selected indicators,so as to determine the evaluation indexes of environmental aging suitability of smart communities that meet the needs of the elderly:the criterion layer,i.e.three principal components factors--environmental comfort, degree of aging appropriateness, and degree of wisdom;the sub-criteria layer satisfies the screening from the literature and is associated with and representative of the criterion layer--thermal comfort, environmental perception, outdoor facilities, safety and security design, wisdom facilities, and wisdom The index layer is obtained and confirmed through literature and SPSS analysis, and includes 16 evaluation indexes in total.Experts such as teachers from universities, designers from design institutes, community managers and representatives of elderly residents were invited to score the importance of each index, and the percentage of each expert’s score was calculated according to the authority, and the evaluation system of the aging-friendly environment of smart communities was constructed and the weights of each index were calculated by AHP hierarchical analysis. The selected typical smart communities were evaluated through a combination of qualitative and quantitative field research, and optimization and renovation strategies were proposed for the poorly evaluated communities in District 14,and the thermal environment optimization strategies were verified by ENVI-met simulation. The results of this study have some guiding significance for the subsequent environmental aging retrofitting and construction of smart communities.
