With the rapid development of digital technology,various industries are facing significant changes.The Digital transformation of the automotive industry has just begun.But with the entry of internet companies and the emergence of new car manufacturers,the market landscape and product design of the automotive industry have undergone significant changes.It has accelerated the process of digital transformation and upgrading of automobile enterprises.Because digital capabilities can help enterprises improve their competitiveness in the process of digital transformation,they have gradually attracted the attention of scholars.At present,the connotation of digital capabilities has not reached a consensus.There is still a lack of research on digital capability evaluation for the automotive industry.Therefore,further exploration is needed.Therefore,this study explores the connotation of digital capabilities by constructing a digital capability model based on automotive enterprises.A key indicator system for evaluating the digital capabilities of automotive enterprises has been established.Based on the results of empirical testing,propose suggestions for building digital capabilities in automotive enterprises.This article adopts a case study method to construct a digital capability theoretical model based on automotive enterprises.Through the analysis of the collected case literature,it is found that digital capability evolves gradually with the digital transformation of enterprises.Therefore,by combining the theory of dynamic capabilities,we can understand digital capabilities from three dimensions: digital perception ability,digital integration ability,and digital reconstruction ability.Divide digital capabilities into identifying and utilizing opportunity capabilities,information integration capabilities,online integration capabilities,digital feedback capabilities,and continuous updating capabilities.Based on the theoretical model of digital capability,select key indicators for evaluating the digital capability of automotive enterprises.First,the Delphi method is used to screen the selected original indicators.According to expert opinions,nine indicators are finally reserved as key indicators for digital capability evaluation,and the indicators are quantified.This study collected data from 14 listed auto companies,including 10 traditional and 4 new auto manufacturers.Using the entropy weight-Topsis method and the Wald cluster analysis method,the digital capabilities of 14 companies were sorted and divided into echelons.Finally,the gray correlation analysis method is used to study the correlation between each index and the result.The results show that the correlation between each index and the measured index is greater than 0.5.It shows that selecting key indicators for digital capability evaluation is reasonable.The digital capability scores of auto companies are mainly between 0.3 and 0.6.The digital capabilities of three new auto-making companies rank among the top 50% of the total sample.Two companies with digital capabilities in the first tier are all new car manufacturers.Therefore,the digital capabilities of new car manufacturing enterprises are superior to those of traditional automobile enterprises.This study is based on constructing a digital capability theoretical model for automotive enterprises,which can enrich the research on digital capability and its evaluation.Propose feasible key indicators for evaluating the digital capability of automotive enterprises based on theoretical models,and measure the digital capability of automotive enterprises.By analyzing the results,it can be concluded that there are differences in digital capabilities between new auto manufacturers and traditional enterprises,which is highly operational and lays the foundation for future research.
