Secondary vocational education is a basic part of my country’s modern vocational education system and plays an important role in the training of secondary vocational talents. In order to deliver high-quality modern agricultural and forestry vocational talents, the quality of classroom teaching in secondary vocational colleges is particularly important.Soil and fertilizer is not only one of the first professional courses that secondary vocational garden technology students come into contact with, but also the foundation for students to follow other professional courses. It mainly includes three major parts:soil science, fertilizer science, and plant nutrition. The teaching content covers a wide range and complicated concepts. Therefore, the effectiveness of soil and fertilizer teaching will directly affect students’ systematic subject knowledge of this course and the study of subsequent professional courses.Through the investigation,it is found that the second-year secondary vocational students have weak basic knowledge of agronomy,it is difficult to learn soil and fertilizer with strong theoretical and practical knowledge, and the students’ learning enthusiasm is not high. The project-based learning is a kind of inquiry learning mode provides students with real situations and solves real problems in the form of group cooperation. And this process of project-based learning is more interesting. This is a teaching method worth trying for soil and fertilizer courses that need to take into account both professional knowledge and practical ability training. This study attempts to apply project-based learning to the teaching of soil and fertilizer in secondary vocational schools, taking the second grade students majoring in landscape technology in Lanzhou Y School as the research object.First of all, through field research and literature review,we understand the current situation of soil and fertilizer teaching, the characteristics of soil and fertilizer curriculum and the characteristics and process of project-based learning mode to explore the applicability of project-based learning in the teaching of soil and fertilizer in secondary vocational schools.Secondly, the core knowledge and ability of soil and fertilizer are used as the main carrier, construct and implement the project-based learning applied to the teaching mode of soil and fertilizer in secondary vocational schools. This paper selects“improving soil texture” for teaching design and implementation, which includes three projects: project 1: the utilization of idle land on campus, project 2: plot system and scientific application of compost, and project 3: the texture improvement of waste vegetable compost on idle land on campus.Fianlly, the teaching effect of "improving soil texture" project activity is analyzed through team cooperation ability evaluation, project activity evaluation form and questionnaire survey. The practical results show that the application of project-based learning to the teaching of soil and fertilizer in secondary vocational schools has improved the learning interest, and promoted the understanding knowledge soil and fertilizer for secondary vocational students. The development of cooperation ability is helpful for secondary vocational students. Finally,we summarize and reflect on the application of project-based learning in soil and fertilizer teaching in secondary vocational schools. We expect to provide reference for secondary vocational soil and fertilizer teachers to carry out project-based learning in teaching.
