The Study On Chinese Onomatopoeia And Its Implications On Oral Chinese Teaching

Onomatopoeia is a special kind of word in language. There is a large amount of it and is showing a potential continuous growing. However, it is not until recent years that the grammar study on it is gradually deepened. Onomatopoeia is an important vocabulary group that cannot be ignored. Onomatopoeia is a word formation can be dated back long ago and it composes and enriches the language of every nation.The amount of Chinese Onomatopoeia is huge and is still expanding. It’s a quite complicated word class with its complexity reflected in semantics, syntax and pragmatics. In this thesis, the onomatopoeia in the novel" I am your father " will be discussed in a full-scale aspect. Onomatopoeia words are classified, analyzed and examined in order to find out their structure and function characters. Besides the emergence Onomatopoeia in cases of oral Chinese teaching materials are also researched, with the purpose of providing reference and basis for to Chinese Teaching. In this article, onomatopoeia was discussed from three aspects:semantics, syntax, and pragmatics.First, according to the object that onomatopoeia simulated, the72Onomatopoeia words from the novel are divided into the following four categories:onomatopoeia that mimic human activities; onomatopoeia that mimic animal activities; Onomatopoeia that mimic natural sounds and Onomatopoeia that mimic artifacts sounds.Next is to analyze grammatical functions of these onomatopoeia words. The syntactic and combination abilities of onomatopoeia were classified and summarized. It is found out that to serve as adverbial modifier is the most common usage of onomatopoeia in this colloquial novel.In addition, onomatopoeia words show the strong ability to combine with verbs. Second is to form a new structure of noun phrase with the word "sheng" after the onomatopoeia.Thirdly, consulting Austin’s theory of speech acts, verbal communication patterns and strategies as well as literary rhetoric function, in this article, collected onomatopoeia will be classified and analyzed from three aspects. They are pragmatic agent functions, implicit functions and pragmatic enhancements. Onomatopoeia’s rhetorical function is the most prominent role in this novel.Subsequently,32Spoken Chinese textbooks are examined in case about any content on onomatopoeia teaching. It is found the number of onomatopoeic words in Oral Chinese Textbooks is very limited. It is believed in this paper that the appropriate amount of the onomatopoeia in textbooks should be based on the stages of learning or the level of learners. Onomatopoeia can be added to increase the diversity and breadth of teaching materials, so that the verbal learning can be more fun.
