Disciplinarity: Functional Linguistic and Sociological Perspectives is an edited collection by Frances Christie,Karl Maton and a group of scholars. The concept―disciplinarity‖ is of great significance to perceive and understand distinct forms of knowledge if we hope to promote knowledge construction and educational practice. The eighth chapter: Discipline and Freedom in Early Childhood Education in this volume mainly discusses the knowledge of disciplinarity against the backdrop of early childhood education. On the premise of not losing their unique insights and discipline integrity, the ways how different disciplines achieve communication and integration are elaborated in this chapter by applying analytical tools of sociology and systemic functional linguistics. The translation difficulties are not only reflected in the variety of terms, but also in the high frequency of complex sentences and passive sentences, which all hinder the understanding of the deep meaning of the source text. This report expounds on translation techniques of Chapter Eight in this volume under the guidance of the Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.On the one hand,as for complex sentences, amplification, division, omission, reconstruction and embedding translation techniques have been adopted through comprehensive analyses of specific examples;on the other hand, conversion,―Beisentence‖ and substitution have been embraced to deal with passive sentences. These techniques make the translation not only conform to the reading habits of target readers but also realize the three rules under the Skopos theory. Therefore, for domestic scholars specializing in disciplinarity, the translated version is expected to enrich sociological approaches to a certain extent,as well as to provide insights for the study of systemic functional linguistics. For teaching personnel, this report makes major contributions to the accumulation of theoretical knowledge about pedagogy so as to help them deliver better teaching performance. Finally, useful translation techniques are provided for translators who are committed to academic translation to deal with similar translation problems that may be encountered in the future.
