This report is based on the author’s interpreting practice in the Economic and Trade Forum during her internship at the American Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China. And it analyzes the application of functional equivalence theory in this practice.Since there are few studies on consecutive interpreting of a specific business conference, interpreters just have a few reference materials when preparing for the work. Therefore, this report introduces in detail the preparation and completion process of the task with a particular focus on pre-interpretation preparation,on-site interpretation, and post-interpretation summary.Through specific case analysis, the report summarizes the application of the theory in this practice, which is reflected in three aspects: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, and stylistic equivalence. The author finds that in the context of business interpreting, sufficient preparation of terms and conference environment can contribute to faithful and concise interpreting for better communication. If key information or industry terms are ignored during the preparation, there will be comprehension problems, resulting in incorrect omission and other problems. This report also analyzes the limitations, summarizes the experience, and puts forward the need to expand the coverage of pre-interpretation preparation, optimize Chinese expression, and cultivate the sense of service,so as to improve the interpreting quality in the future, and hopes to provide enlightenment for business consecutive interpreting in the future. |
