A university serves as a frontier for the development of innovative technologies.Universities as Drivers of Social Innovation reviews the social role of universities in local urban contexts, and describes the significance of the university campus and teachers as agents of change. The source text of this report originates from first part of the book, entitled camp US-Incubation and Social Practice Environment, which mainly introduces a model of social practice in Milan in collaboration with local universities. This report adopts Newmark’s Semantic and Communicative Translation theory as the theoretical guidance for this practice.Efforts have been made to put forward some strategies and techniques for the translation of informative text, and various methods have been adopted to guarantee the accuracy of translated version and enhance the readability of the target texts as well as the effect of communication. In this report, the translator describes the difficulties and corresponding solutions from the aspects of vocabulary and syntax in Communicative Translation as well as Semantic Translation. For instance,at the lexical level, the translator focused on the flexible transformation of part of speech as well as four-character structure in view of the differences of habitual expressions between Chinese and English. At the syntactic level, the focus of translation is on voice conversion, sentence division, and syntactic restructuring, etc. This translation practice report attempts to provide a channel for Chinese academics to understand how foreign universities use their superior resources so as to integrate with local cities and engage in social innovation.
