Some scholars have pointed out that linguistic landscapes,as potential teaching tools, can have a positive impact on language learning, which provides a new way of thinking about second language teaching in Chinese.Based on the existing research findings on linguistic landscapes, this paper draws on theories related to language acquisition and second language teaching to analyse the value of linguistic landscapes as potential resources for teaching Chinese as a second language, and to explore new ways of resourcefulness in teaching linguistic landscapes in conjunction with specific courses.Firstly, the field survey method was used to investigate the linguistic landscape of Xi’an,analyse the regional characteristics of the linguistic landscape, and explore the classification of the local linguistic landscape of Xi’an at the level of linguistic elements and explore its natural superiority as a teaching resource in terms of its cultural connotations.Secondly, the collected linguistic landscape samples are applied to the Chinese language classroom for teaching practice.A questionnaire survey is used to understand the basic profile of Chinese learners and their perceptions of the language landscape. The content is then selected based on the situational approach and the actual needs of the learners.Interviews are used to collect feedback from the learners after the completion of the class and to evaluate and reflect on the teaching. Finally, based on the teaching practice, the issues and suggestions that need attention when using linguistic landscapes in the contextual approach are presented. The issues that need attention include: the linguistic landscape as a teaching resource, and the selection of the corpus should be normative, practical and interesting.Suggestions for use include creating teaching contexts with linguistic landscapes and teaching the perception of linguistic landscapes in real-life settings. The innovation of this study is mainly reflected in the combination and practical investigation of linguistic landscape and Chinese situational teaching. The study finds that the application of linguistic landscape to Chinese situational teaching can provide contextual compensation, create a natural and realistic language environment, facilitate the cultivation of learners’ contextual competence, unconsciously stimulate learners’ interest in learning, and can provide new ideas for expanding the way of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. |
