In recent years,the number of Chinese learners has been increasing with the vigorous promotion of Chinese in the world.As one of the ten ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations)countries,Chinese education in Thailand has developed most rapidly and has formed a complete system of kindergartens,primary schools,secondary schools and universities.At present,Thailand has a total of more than 3,000 schools offering Chinese language courses.The number of Chinese volunteer teachers teaching in Thailand has totaled more than 10,000.Although Chinese language education has achieved great development in Thailand,many problems have been exposed.Particularly in zero-based spoken Chinese teaching in Thailand,traditional teaching methods such as direct method,grammar translation method(Sino-Thailand)and audio-lingual method,etc.are still widely adopted by most volunteer teachers,which leads to teacher-centred classes and low learning enthusiasm and initiative.Therefore,Chinese volunteer teachers should analyse the current Chinese learning situation in Thailand,taking into account the characteristics of Thai students,and work out suitable teaching methods that fit local students so as to motivate their enthusiasm of learning Chinese.The author chooses situational teaching method as the theoretical foundation for the research.Based on previous studies,combining with her own teaching practice,the author applied situational teaching method to the elementary spoken Chinese teaching in a vocational school setting.A teaching plan is made based on lesson 19 What Are Your Hobbies? in Kuaile Hanyu(Thailand Version).In order to prove the teaching effect of situational teaching method,the author conducted a semester-long teaching experiment in the 2/10 class and 2/12 of tourism major.A comprehensive research methods including experimental method,questionnaire method,interviewing method and other teaching methods were used to get the following final findings:Firstly,situational teaching method has positive effect on elementary spoken Chinese teaching as a foreign language in technology schools of Thailand,which helps relieve students' learning anxiety,improve students' initiative and motivate their enthusiasm for learning oral Chinese.Secondly,creation of teaching situations should focus on the integration of cultural factors,which should not only be close to the actual life in Thailand,but also be integrated with Chinese cultural factors so as to enable the students to grasp the particularity of Chinese language communication in the process of language learning.Situational teaching method makes the learning of spoken Chinese as close as possible to the context of the target language culture,helps to improve students' spoken Chinese and Chinese communication skills,enables students to imperceptibly perceive the charm of the rich and profound Chinese culture and truly spread the Chinese culture out.
