| An Immense World,published in 2022,studies how animals use their senses to explore the world.Upon its publication,it immediately received numerous accolades.But few articles or books on the subject have been written in China.This report on translation practice analyses the English-Chinese translation of An Immense World according to the analytical framework of "comprehension,expression and adaptation" proposed by Li Changshuan.The report examines how to solve the problems of comprehension,expression and adaptation in translation practice.In terms of comprehension,the translator analyses how to understand the words and background of the text;in terms of expression,she analyses how to make target language consistent and avoid Europeanised Chinese;in terms of adaptation,she studies how to add and delete information.After the analysis,the translator finds that understanding this book requires both a strong knowledge of biology and an excellent knowledge of English grammar to understand the original author’s intention;expression requires the translator to have excellent Chinese expression skills to write fluently in Chinese;adaptation requires the translator to have the ability to find out important information and to delete or simplify surplus content. |
