A Report On C-E Translation Of The Development History Of The Old Revolutionary Base Areas In Puning County (Chapter Ⅴ) From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the remarkable enhancement of China’s international status and influence,foreign scholars pay more attention to our country’s red culture,and are also eager for red reading materials.Meanwhile,the translation and dissemination of red resources is of great significance for further cultivating patriotism and promoting our culture to the world.Guided by the three rules of Skopos theory,this report takes the content of the informative text The Development History of the Old Revolutionary Base Areas in Puning County(Chapter V)as the source text.In accordance of skopos rule,the names of historical events,military teams,policies in translation are studied,and relevant historical background information is appropriately supplemented in the form of in-text and out-of-text annotations so as to achieve cross-cultural communication;In terms of coherence rule,complex sentences in translation are analyzed.The meaning of sentences can be reduced to simplicity by splitting,regrouping and merging,and the expression of sentences are more coherent thus to enhance readers’ understanding via using cohesive means reasonably;On the basis of fidelity rule,the culture-loaded words and Chinese characteristic words in translation were explored by way of expounding the connotation of culture and combining the strategies of domestication and foreignization,which not only restores the author’s intention of expression,but also brings good reading experience to readers.This translation practice shows that the flexible translation strategies and methods can be summarized under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory,which can not only reproduce the expression effect and deep meaning of the source text to a certain extent,but also greatly enhance the readability and accuracy of the translation.Therefore,Skopos theory poses a positive significance to the translation practice.The practice is expected to spread Chinese red culture and its spiritual connotation,and also provide useful reference for similar translation practices in the future.
