Features Of Translated Text For The Government Work Report In The Past Five Years And The Construction Of China’s National Image

With the increasing comprehensive national strength and rising status in the world,China keeps closer communications with other countries.In the process of building a community with a shared future for mankind,the global community has paid much attention to the Chinese government’s achievements.As globalization evolves,it is significant to discuss how to present China’s national image and how to build a comprehensive,multidimensional and unbiased image of China in our own way.As an authoritative official document,The Government Work Report introduces what our country has done in politics,economics,culture and so on.It can be said that this document plays an important role in understanding China and studying China’s national image.Guided by the theory of critical discourse analysis,this research analyzes the features of translated text for The Government Work Report in the past five years with the method of corpus linguistics.This research mainly discusses the lexical features of The Government Work Report including high-frequency words,modal verbs and the collocations with"China".With the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis,the thesis aims to explore the features of translated text for The Government Work Report in the past five years,the features of China’s national image built in the translated reports and the implications for relevant translation studies.Based on the case analysis,this research mainly draws three conclusions.First,high-frequency words reflect Chinese government’s priority and major actions,modal verbs show the government’s hope and determination and the collocations with "China" reveal the focus of the government.Secondly,China is constructed as a responsible,enterprising,people-centered country through the features of translated text for The Government Work Report.Finally,the thesis provides not only new ideas for translation studies of political texts but also new inspirations for the studies of China’s national image construction.
