This translation discusses the application of translation compensation strategies on informative texts translation, taking Statistics in Corpus Linguistics: a New Approach,by Sean Wallis as an example, guided by German functionalist Reiss’ s text typology. The source text under consideration exhibits characteristics of informative texts with logical and concise language. It clearly explains specific statistical analysis methods and examples for the reader. This study focuses on translation compensation from lexical, grammatical, and discourse levels, which is mainly guided by the translation compensation theory from Xia Tingde. It applies appropriate translation compensation strategies, like“amplification,”“specification,”and “annotation” on the lexical level, compensation on logical conjunction, and person deixis on the discourse level.Through the analysis of relevant cases,it was found that the use of translation compensation theory can significantly improve the quality and readability of academic text translation in order to achieve the translation goal more effectively. This project aims to provide a reference for further studies on the translation compensation of English to Chinese translations of academic texts and corpus linguistics,as well as promote corpus linguistics research.
