A C-E Translation Report On Yangzhou Traditional Architectural Art(Excerpts)

Traditional architecture in Yangzhou is a unique architectural style formed through the integration and development of various architectural features,which fully reflects the ideology,values,and psychological situation of local people,and plays an extremely important role in the external publicity of culture.However,after studying the current research status of Yangzhou traditional architectural culture,the author found that few English translations were published,which not only hinders the overseas publicity of Chinese traditional culture but also impedes the construction of the image of Yangzhou City.The source text of this translation practice report is the third chapter of the book Yangzhou Traditional Architectural Art.This report concentrated on the language characteristics of the original text,summarized the problems encountered in the translation process,put forward solutions,and summed up translation skills used in translation.The problem mainly focused on the translation of culture-loaded words,four-character phrases,idioms,long sentences,and non-subject sentences;and to deal with the problems mentioned above,the author adopted different translation methods such as free translation,transliteration plus annotation and etc.In this translation practice,the author has encountered many translation difficulties,including a lack of background knowledge,improper use of language,and so on.The author is deeply aware that translation work requires a strong language capability and a detailed understanding of the background knowledge of the translated text.So,it is hoped that through this translation practice,the author can have a more intuitive understanding of Yangzhou traditional architectural culture,letting more readers abroad know about Yangzhou traditional architecture,and at the same time,contribute to the external publicity and spreading of Chinese culture.
