In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,academic thought was extremely active.During this period,on the basis of inheriting the retro tradition of the late Ming Dynasty,the study of Book of Songs appeared new characteristics and laid the foundation for the study of the Book of Songs in the Qing Dynasty.As important representatives of the study of the Book of Songs in the early Qing Dynasty,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan played an important role in the study of the Book of Songs.The first chapter discusses the background of Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan’s works on the Book of songs form three aspects.First of all,in terms of the background of the times,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan were both in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties when the academic atmosphere was relatively open.During this period,the official advocated Cheng and Zhu’s Neo-Confucianism,the folk prevailing the trend of retro thought,and the mainstream tendency of the study of the Book of Songs was to adopt the scholarship of Han and Song dynasties.Secondly,in terms of the environment in which they lived,Zhu and Chen were from the same hometown,both lived in Wujiang,Jiangsu,where the trend of retro thought prevailed,and were close friends,so they often discussed the study of "Poetry" together.The similar time background and regional environment make their studies of "poetry" have something in common.Howerer,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan formed different research concepts due to their different personalities and experiences.Zhu Heling has a wide circle of friends and an open mind,so his study of "Poetry" advocated the collection of views from various schools.Chen Qiyuan was austere,proud and unwilling to make friends.His academic research was also more careful and specific,and the study of the Book of Songs tended to a kind of academic school.The second chapter discusses the similarities and differences between Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan’s from the aspects of writing purpose,interpretation method and writing style.First of all,their research similarities are mainly divided into the following aspects.In the purpose of writing,Zhu and Chen devoted themselves to exploring the original meaning of the Book of Songs and restoring the original appearance of the ancient book.On the exegetical aspects of the Book of Songs,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan,on the basis of absorbing the research achievements of scholars of the Han Dynasty,drew lessons from the research methods of Sinology and insisted on empirical evidence and textual examination.In terms of the main idea of the Book of Songs,they insist on using the Mao Shi Xu to explain the poem,believing that the Mao Shi Xu conforms to the original meaning of the poem and cannot be completely discarded.At the same time,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan agree with the concept that "Poetry is history",and both adopt the research method of mutual verification of poetry and history.Secondly,the difference in their study of "Poetry" lies in the style of their works and their attitude towards the study of the Han Dynasty and the Song Dynasty.Zhu Heling’s Shi Jing Tong yi follows the traditional mode of annotation and explains the full text,and he adopts a more enlightened attitude to study,puts aside prejudice,and adopts both Han and Song academic.Chen Qiyuan’s Mao Shi Ji Gu Bian adopts the arrangement form of notes,arranges according to the problems,and he imitates the research methods of scholars in the Han Dynasty,vigorously criticizes the study of the Song Dynasty,and refutes the study of the Song Dynasty with the study of the Han.The third chapter analyzes Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan’s acceptance of the predecessors’ study of the Book of Songs from two aspects: the study of the Book of Songs in the Han Dynasty and the study of the Book of Songs in the Song Dynasty.Zhu Heling adopted an eclectic attitude towards the study of Han and Song dynasties.He dialectical various theories in Shi Jing Tong Yi,adopted Mao Zhuan and three theories of the Book of Songs in exegesis,and adopted the theories of Song scholars on the basis of Mao Shi Xu.Chen Qiyuan mainly adopted the theories of Han Dynasty in exegesis and theme.At the same time,he seldom quoted the views of scholars in the Song Dynasty when studying the Book of songs.He paid special attention to the interpretation of Mao Zhuan,and promoted its status.In a word,Zhu Heling and Chen Qiyuan exchanged and influenced each other.In addition,their studies were influenced by the academic atmosphere at that time and had common characteristics,but they were different because of their different personal experiences.Both of them had an important influence in the academic circles at that time and promoted the development of the Book of Songs studies in later generations.
