As climate change has become a global issue,it has been consensus to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.Standing at the starting point of the new century,China,in 2020,officially put forward the strategic goal of reaching peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030and carbon neutrality by 2060.With the theme of“Promoting Global ESG Development and Creating a Sustainable Future”,the second Sina Finance’s ESG Global Leaders Summit was held from June 28thto 30thin 2022.Focusing on global ESG trends as well as ESG investment theory and practice, representatives from leading organizations, enterprises and academic institutions in the global ESG business were invited here to exchange ideas and cooperation so as to achieve global sustainable development goals. The Chinese-English consecutive interpreting materials were selected from two keynote speeches under the agenda of“A Global Win-win Future with ESG Opportunities”on June28th,including nine guests. The speeches are characterized with a large number of terms and proper nouns as well as distinctive expressions of each speaker, which led to disfluency in the process of consecutive interpreting.Prefabricated Chunks refer to a string of words which we store as a whole in our memory,so that they can be retrieved immediately without the steps of the generation and analysis of grammar, and accumulating and flexibly using PCs can improve the fluency of interpreting.Disfluency is classified into pauses, repetitions and repairs.Guided by the prefabricated chunk theory, this practice report combines three categories of the PCs with different types of disfluency, which are subdivided into pauses caused by failure in decoding chunks of source language, repairs caused by misuse of collocations, repetitions caused by too much focus on prepositional phrasal structures, repairs caused by slot errors, pauses caused by superfluous information in source language and repetitions caused by vague discourse logic.Based on the analysis of each problem, corresponding solutions are proposed including appropriate deverbalization, strengthening self-monitoring,removal of prepositional phrasal structures, reasonable prediction through the context, omitting or deleting superfluous information and explicit treatment of the vague discourse logic.Since there are some studies on prefabricated block theory in consecutive interpreting, the interpreter hopes that this practice report can provide some new ideas and references for applying prefabricated chunk theory to solving the problems of disfluency in consecutive interpreting.
