The 2021 Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Summit was held in Wuxi on May19 th,2021.This summit focuses on the dual carbon goals and aims to contribute Wuxi’s wisdom to achieve low-carbon,coordinated and sustainable development in the Yangtze River Delta region and even whole China. In this report, the speeches of five guests in this summit are selected as material for simulated simultaneous interpreting. This report consists of five parts: task introduction, task process, the introduction of relevance theory, case analysis and task conclusion.Relevance theory regards interpreting as a dual ostensive-inferential process that involves the speaker, the interpreter, and the audience. That means the interpreter should find optimal relevance based on the speaker’s ostensive process and then transcends it to the audience,so that they can create the best contextual effects and appreciate the real intention of the speaker with minimum efforts.During the process of interpreting, the main problems encountered by the author are terminology misinterpreting, idiom misinterpreting, mishandling of inadequate and redundant information and inauthentic expression.Guided by relevance theory, and in order to reduce the audience’s inferential efforts and help them achieve the optimal relevance, the author uses paraphrasing, amplification, omission, and conversion to solve those problems and analyzes them with specific cases.Through this simulated interpreting, the author hopes to accumulate relevant knowledge in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, apply proper translation methods in future interpreting tasks and arouse more attention of interpreters to the “Dual Carbon” area.
