Small class sizes help students fully tap their potential, meet the specific learning needs of different students, and contribute to students’ all-round development.Unlike high-quality small-class teaching in cities,small-class teaching in rural primary schools is a "natural phenomenon" caused by the loss of students. This kind of naturally occurring small class is a natural advantage of rural teaching, but in the real rural education situation, the teaching advantages of small class are not fully exerted, nor do they present a better teaching effect. Therefore, this paper takes primary school English teaching as an example to explore how to make good use of the advantages of natural small classes in rural primary schools and implement small English class teaching in rural primary schools. This paper includes the following research content:The introduction part first elaborates on the problem, small class teaching can make up for the disadvantages of large class teaching, and how rural primary school English teachers should take advantage of small class teaching to implement small class teaching is a problem worth considering.Secondly, from the current situation of foreign and domestic research on small class teaching, rural small class teaching, and rural primary school English teaching, the existing research results are reviewed and reflected. Finally, the research content and methods are described.Firstly, taking two primary schools in S Town as the research objects, the current situation of the implementation of small class English teaching in rural primary schools was analyzed, mainly focusing on the number of students and teaching resources of the school, and objectively and comprehensively analyzing the school’s English teacher team, workload, professional development and teaching situation,as well as students’ student source and English learning. In the process of analyzing the implementation status, the problems in the implementation of small English class teaching in two primary schools in S town were summarized, the problems of shortage of teaching material resources, limited number of teachers and less sharing of teaching resources in English teaching resources, solidification of traditional teaching mode, uneven level of teaching expertise, single teaching methods and low interest in classroom teaching in terms of teacher literacy, and students showed uneven development of listening and speaking ability, low participation, and poor listening habits in learning.Secondly, the reasons for the problems in the implementation of small class teaching in primary schools were discussed, and the influencing factors of insufficient development of English teaching resources were education funding, policy and school organization ecology. The problem of teachers’ comprehensive literacy is due to the comprehensive influence of teachers’ teaching philosophy, professional quality, teaching training and teaching motivation. The problems in students’ learning are caused by students’ lack of interest in learning,a single language environment and lack of family education. Finally, based on the problems and reasons of small English class teaching in two primary schools in S town, countermeasures to solve the problem are proposed.First, the two primary schools in S town can increase the construction of rural small-class teaching resources by enriching the English small-class teaching infrastructure, improving equipment management services, and strengthening English teacher training;Second, teachers should update the concept of student-oriented small class teaching, schools should first build a teaching and research community, teachers should strengthen English language output and input, and design student-oriented teaching links to achieve;Third, teachers need to flexibly use modern information technology, create a language environment, implement inquiry-based teaching, create situational teaching and other methods to carry out teaching;Fourth, teachers stimulate and maintain students’ interest in English learning by tapping localized teaching resources, carrying out rich English extracurricular activities, and exploring scientific methods with home and school, and implement small English class teaching in rural primary schools. |
