| The expansion of the field of human-computer interaction has led to a digital trend in the real world.Experience-centred digital interactive installation art has changed the mechanism of generating meaning and the way of perceiving and experiencing works, focusing on the human body as a structural component of the interactive installations, highlighting the physical sensations of individuals and groups in the real world, and thus giving rise to contemporary thoughts on how to build connections between people and the world. As a digital field of artworks carried in physical space, interactive installations have shifted the audience’s perception of works from traditional static aesthetics to embodied experience, but research on their shifting nature is still mostly focused on isolated technical applications and artistic expressions, lacking a connected perspective on the relationship between the body and the experience of interactive installations. In this regard, this paper takes an embodied cognitive perspective and uses interactive installations as a research vehicle to look at the design of interactive installations experiences. The paper analyses the bodily elements in the experience of interactive installations;it elaborates on the embodied relationship between the body, interactive installations and the space in which they are located;it develops principles for the design of interactive installations experience from three aspects:embodied context, sensory experience and interaction mechanism, and proposes corresponding methods for the design of interactive installations experience.Firstly, the bodily elements in the interactive installations experience are divided and sorted out, clarifying the premise, manner and meaning of the body’s participation in the interactive installations experience. It is clarified that the physical experience of the audience’s body dissolves the subject-object dichotomy in the interactive installations experience and realises the ’reversibility’ of the physical interface between the body and the interactive installations. The body as an interface can therefore be used as a new dimension in the design of the interactive installations experience.Secondly,we clarify the way the body perceives interactive installations from three dimensions: holistic perception, connection perception and feedback perception;we explain how the body opens up the experience field of interactive installations based on the temporal and spatial dimensions, and expand the dimensions of the experience field;we analyse the embodied relationship in the experience field of interactive installations from the perspectives of perception, behaviour and cognition.Based on the above research, the design principles of the embodied context, sensory experience and interaction mechanism in the interactive installations experience are established. Finally, based on the design principles, the design method of interactive installations experience is further proposed.According to the design objectives, the experience space is built from three dimensions: embodiment q,experience content and presentation;based on the thematic intention, the visual elements of visual information experience and multimodal experience are created;based on the narrative content, the interaction methods of tactile experience, cognitive experience and immersion experience are stimulated, improved and created. The aim is to promote the integration of experience space, visual elements and interaction methods in the interactive installations experience field, and to propose a more universal approach to interactive installations experience design in order to improve audience experience. |
