E Er Gu Na He You An(the original text written by Chi Zijian)which has won the Mao Dun Literary Prize is a very typical literary work of the Chinese minority. The theory of Eco-translatology is continuously perfected and becoming mature.Although the studies on the E Er Gu Na He You An and Eco-translatology have achieved fruitful accomplishments from diverse perspectives. There are relatively few studies that involve comprehensive and specific in-depth research on The Last Quarter of the Moon(the English version of E Er Gu Na He You An)based on the Eco-translatology.This thesis concerns itself with research on the English version of The Last Quarter of the Moon from the perspective of Eco-translatology,focusing on how the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment and realizes the three-dimensional transformations.Eco-translatology combines Ecology and Translatology and introduces some principles of Ecology such as“adaptation/selection” and “ecological environment” into Translatology. The main method of Eco-translatology is the three-dimensional transformation which includes the adaptive transformation on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. Therefore, from the aspects of the translator’s selective adaptation and adaptive selection to the translational eco-environment,this thesis devotes itself to the following two questions:(1)what factors make the translator adapt to the translational eco-environment with the original text as the typical element?(2)what adaptive selections are adopted by the translator to realize the transformation from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions in this English version? This thesis uses qualitative research and case analysis to analyze the experiences, language competence of the translator and case sentences from The Last Quarter of the Moon. The results indicate that :(1)the translator’s personal factors, like the translator’s interests in Chinese literature, years of life experiences in China, high level of Chinese competence and ideology of paying attention to the ethnic minority literature and promoting the ethnic equality enable the translator to successfully adapt to the translational eco-environment with the original text as the typical element;(2)the translator adopts various translation methods and skills to realize the three-dimensional transformations,to be specific,on the linguistic dimension, the translator adopts addition and combination to realize the transformation of the speech of figures, and paraphrasing, omission and shift of word class to realize the transformation of dialect;on the cultural dimension, the translator mainly adopts addition and paraphrasing to transform the cultural customs and addition as well as diction to transform the cultural belief;on the communicative dimension, the translator mainly uses the addition, paraphrasing and variation translation to transfer the communicative purpose of the original text and addition, paraphrasing and semantic shift to convey the implicit ecological thoughts. The research significance is mainly reflected in two aspects: for one thing,it attempts to have reference value for the application of Eco-translatology in the literature;and for another,it is expected to make some contribution to the transmission of Chinese ethnic minority literature.
