This is a report on the E-C translation practice of the novel Something Fresh. It tells the story of Ashe, the writer of detective stories, who jumped out of the comfort zone to try new things and finally reaped love and wealth. The novel is deeply loved by readers, and this translation practice can allow Chinese readers to see an excellent novel, enhance the translator’s translation ability of literary works, and provide reference for the application of adaptation theory in literary work translation. This translation practice is guided by the adaptation theory, and the translation practice report carries out case studies from two aspects: contextual adaptation and linguistic structural adaptation. In the aspect of contextual adaptation,it mainly discusses the adaptation of linguistic context and the physical world, the mental world, and the social world in a communicative context.Structural adaptation of language explores adaptation at the lexical level and sentence level. For foreign cultural elements that Chinese readers have little understanding of,annotation, addition, and free translation methods can be used to make the translation more in line with the Chinese communicative context; The translation of some pronouns in the original text can use repetition and combination methods to make the translation more coherent and adapt to the Chinese language context.Due to language differences between Chinese and English,in this translation, the translator used a large number of four character idioms, translated passive sentences into active sentences, and eliminated conjunctions without actual meaning in the sentences to make the translation conform to the language structure of Chinese and conform to Chinese expression habits.Through this translation practice,we have summarized how to make the translation adapt to the context and language structure in novel translation, hoping to provide reference and reference for the translation of future literary works.
