A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Unwinding Anxiety(Excerpt)

With the development of the times,people pay more and more attention to psychological problems and their solutions.Books in related fields are an important channel for people to understand psychological problems.Therefore,the translator chose Part 0 and Part I of Unwinding Anxiety as the source text for the translation project.The book introduces the causes of habitual addiction and anxiety and provides specific ways to relieve anxiety for readers with the help of mindfulness therapy,which has strong reference value.Under the guidance of adaptation theory,the translator writes the practice report,trying to solve the problems encountered in the translation process.The report includes five parts: Introduction,Task Description,Process Description,Case Analysis and Conclusion.In Case Analysis,the translator discusses the translation of popular science texts from two aspects: contextual adaptation and structural adaptation.At the level of contextual adaptation,the translator analyzes how to convey the geographical and cultural information contained in some words and sentences.At the level of structural adaptation,the translator discusses the solutions to difficulties caused by the differences between Chinese and English in parts of speech and sentence structures.Through the translation and report writing,the translator has the following conclusions and gains:firstly,for the technical information or cultural and social information in the source text,the translator takes the method of annotation to ensure the accuracy of the information.Secondly,to deal with language differences,the translator adopts translation methods and skills such as free translation,addition,ellipsis,semantic extension,conversion,etc.,to adapt to the context of the target text and increase readability.Moreover,the translator also has a better understanding of the characteristics of popular science texts,and his translation ability has been improved.It is hoped that the report may provide some reference for the translation of popular science texts.
