| In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,the new Baimei pictures set up a value concept different from the traditional beauty pictures,which not only imagined a new female image for the society in transition,but also guided the female forward direction after the awakening of individual consciousness.As a new image born in the period of transition between old and new,the new Baimeidu not only meets the discussion of the elite class to save the nation from extinction,but also caters to the rational imagination of the emerging citizens for the commercialization of art.They collide and merge with each other.Through the interaction between texts and images,we can explore the unique Chinese and Foreign miscellanies and complementary aesthetic tastes at that time.With the rise of modern paper media and the introduction of new ideas,under the influence of foreign western culture,the new Baimeitu created rich new female images by using and transforming traditional themes and creating new themes,and on the basis of learning from local cultural resources.It not only satisfied the realistic desire of the emerging citizens,but also changed women’s aesthetic and daily life.These changes make women more and more close to the center of the historical stage.Through these rich images,we can see the transformation of traditional female images under the background of the integration of elite culture and mass culture in Shanghai in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. |
