A Report On The Translation Practice Of Jia Pingwa’s Novels From The Perspective Of Reader Response Theory

With the enhancement of China’s comprehensive national strength and the increasing influence of the world,Chinese novels are respected and loved by readers all over the world,and many famous writers have emerged,one of whom is Jia Pingwa.He has been writing for many years and has made a lot of achievements.So far,Jia Pingwa has won more than 50 literary awards at home and abroad,especially he once won the seventh Mao Dun Literary Award for the novel Qin Opera.This translation report selects Jia Pingwa’s another novel Temporary Sitting,which is Jia Pingwa’s first real urban female perspective novel.As soon as the novel was published,it attracted a great deal of readers.The novel not only uses a large number of oral and detailed descriptions to successfully shape the plump female characters,but also maintains the close relationship between the text and real life,which leads the readers to think deeply about human nature and ethics.Based on previous studies,the translation report applies Reader Response Theory to the translation of the novel.Reader Response Theory was put forward by Eugene Nida,an American translator.It mainly guides the translation of the literary text from the aspects of the reader’s status,the reader’s reading expectation,the reader’s reading horizon and the dynamic equivalence of the reader’s response.In the process of translation,the method of substitution,paraphrase and alienation,are adopted at the lexical level to make the translation accurately and clearly express the intention of the original author,especially the translation of Shaanxi dialects and local specialties;The syntactic level mainly adopts the methods of transformation,supplement and amplification in order to make the target language fluent and grammar consistent with English expression;At the textual level,variant translation and explicitation are used to make the content of the translation fluent and semantic coherence.Under the guidance of Reader Response Theory,it can not only translate the original text correctly,but also deepen the deep understanding of the theory.Temporary Sitting has high literary translation value.Through translation practice,the following conclusions are drawn: the important problem to be solved in the translation of novels is to translate the original text into an authentic target language.Readers can obtain a reading experience similar to that of the original author,which can help readers accurately understand the translation.Nowadays,with a large number of Chinese culture exported to the world,the translation study of Jia Pingwa’s novels can further speed up the spread of his novels,which is conducive to Chinese literature going to the world,which is a kind of publicity for Chinese culture.At the same time,it can also provide some references for other translators engaged in Jia Pingwa’s text translation practice.
