| Covid-19 and E-commerce: A Global Review was published on the official website of United Nations in March,2021 and mainly reviews the development of e-commerce affected by the pandemic worldwide in 2020.The translation report extracts its first two chapters as the study object in the translation report. The translation is guided by Ke Ping’s and Xia Tingde’s translation compensation strategies.Ke Ping thinks that translation loss is unavoidable in the process of language transformation. To solve this problem,he forms his own compensation strategies, namely, annotation, amplification, shift of perspective, specification, generalization, paraphrase, adaptation and back translation form his translation compensation strategies. To compensate for the grammatical loss due to linguistic differences between Chinese and English,Xia Tingde proposes compensation strategy at discourse level and holds that Chinese lexical devices, including connectives, can be added to make up for the loss at discourse level.By combining Ke Ping’s compensation strategies including annotation, amplification and paraphrase and Xia Tingde’s strategy at discourse level, the theoretical framework of this report is formulated. In the application of the theoretical foundation, the strategy of annotation will be selected to translate business terms, abbreviations, and proper nouns, with the aim of making up for target readers’ lack of cultural knowledge;she uses amplification strategy to compensate for the loss in meaning, which can remove target readers’ reading obstacles and make the translation clear;he adopts paraphrase strategy to deal with some difficult words and expressions, thereby making the translation easy to understand. In addition,in the application of Xia Tingde’s translation strategy for compensation at discourse level, through using Chinese lexical devices, namely adding connectives, the loss at discourse level can be compensated in the way that target readers are accustomed to.Through the translation, the author has several findings.Firstly, the business text contains lots of proper nouns, abbreviations and business terms. As for these fixed expressions, translators need to consider readers’ acceptability through adding notes in an explicit manner.Secondly,Xia Tingde’s compensation strategy, namely adding connectives is effective to make up for the loss at discourse level.Lastly,it is hoped that this translation study can not only promote the translation practice of business texts in the future, but also supply some suggestions for the development of domestic e-commerce. |
