The translation of education reports carrying rich educational information promotes the understanding of different education systems and enhances their development.The State of Postsecondary Education in Canada provides a comprehensive overview of postsecondary education in Canada,a powerhouse of postsecondary education.Given the fact that China is upgrading its higher education from quantity to quality,the study on the practice of the E-C translation of The State of Postsecondary Education in Canada can provide inspiration for its quality transformation.In the meantime,it explores some applicable E-C translation methods of similar texts for reference.This report elaborates the translating process of The State of Postsecondary Education in Canada from English to Chinese.Under the guidance of Newmark’s Text Typology,it analyzes the key and difficult points of the translation of educational texts and their translation methods through the case study on the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.Since the report is classified into informative text,it is found that the E-C practice clearly demonstrates the guiding role of Newmark’s Text Typology in the translation of educational texts.However,communicative translation should come first while semantic translation second in the translation of such texts.Besides,it offers something meaningful as reference for the translation of educational texts,especially texts on higher education,and provides space for further exploration on the study of translation theory and practice.
