This is a practical report on English-Chinese translation, which comes from chapters 31-37 of the Dragon’s Mind,an English science fiction novel. The book is a science fiction novel written by Vered Ehsani, which tells the story happening in the future. The plot of the novel has ups and downs, and the text content is mostly dialogue and the characters’ inner monologue. The guiding theory adopted in this translation practice is Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. In the process of translation,it is mainly guided by four aspects of the Functional Equivalence Theory: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. On the premise of being faithful to the source text and understanding the original meaning,it dares to break through the form of the source text and follow Chinese norms and expression habits,For the translation of the dialogues, actions and environment descriptions of the characters in the novel, the author flexibly used the corresponding translation strategies and translation skills, tried to get rid of the constraints of the source language, conveyed the content written by the original writer to the readers to the greatest extent, and make the readers enter the writer’s ideological environment and resonate with the writer. The report is mainly divided into five chapters: the first chapter is a description of the translation task, including determining the translation text, analyzing the author’s life, introducing the translation theory, describing the language characteristics of science fiction, and explaining the feasibility and necessity of the translation practice. The second chapter is a description of the translation process, including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is a literature review: the Functional Equivalence Theory requires the translator to fully understand the source text and consider the characteristics of the target readers,so as to make the translation equivalent to the source text, objective, accurate, easy to understand and readable. The fourth chapter is a case study, which summarizes the types of problems in translation practice, the theoretical thinking and solution process of translation problems, and tries to draw a conclusion. The fifth chapter is a conclusion, including the harvest of translation practice and the unsolved problems in translation practice,as well as the inspiration and prospect for the future translation of such texts. In a summary, based on the research results of translation predecessors on science fiction translation, this paper combs and studies from the aspects of translation strategies and methods from the perspective of multi-dimensional research, guided on the Functional Equivalence Theory,in order to promote the development of Chinese science fiction translation. |
