In recent years,more and more people around the world are learning Chinese,and Chinese learners are gradually showing a trend of younger age.The practice of teaching Chinese as a second language is also constantly innovating and developing.Nowadays,international Chinese teachers pay more and more attention to the teaching principles of“being student-centered and teacher-led” and “having fun”.At present,although there are some achievements in the research on game teaching and teaching Chinese as a second language for younger learners,there is still a need for improvement,especially in teaching design and teaching methods based on specific textbooks.This thesis bases its teaching design on the specific teaching content of 14 lessons in the English-version1 a and 1b of Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids(Children’s Edition)published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press.Through literature research,case analysis and text research,the thesis analyzes the possibility and importance of game teaching in the classroom of teaching Chinese as a second language to young-age learners.In terms of teaching objects,the thesis mainly analyzes the definition of “children” and Chinese teaching for children for whom Chinese is not their first language or mother tongue.For books 1a and 1a of Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids(Children’s Edition),the thesis summarizes the teaching contents and teaching objectives and carries out teaching designs from four aspects of language skills: listening,speaking,reading and writing.A total of 28 specific game-oriented teaching design cases are involved in this thesis,including games for Chinese listening,writing,speaking and reading respectively.It is hoped that the analysis and instructional designs in the thesis can be used for reference by international Chinese teachers,especially those who use the textbook Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids(Children’s Edition)and those who attempt to adopt the method of game teaching.Hopefully,this thesis can inspire and help international Chinese teachers in the classroom game teaching of Chinese as a second language for younger learners.
