| This is a Chinese-English(C-E)translation practice report.The source text comes from the Official Website of Kaifu District,Changsha,covering a wide range of topics including politics,economy,culture and social life.The official website is an important window for foreigners to learn more about Changsha.It is also conducive to publish government policies,attract foreign investments and spread Hunan culture.The news text of the government website is a typical information text,which not only has the characteristics of news,but also is full of Chinese culture-loaded expressions.Target readers are ordinary foreign folks who are lack of knowledge about Chinese culture,so the conversion of the Chinese culture-loaded expressions become main challenge of the translation practice.Meanwhile,target readers are apt to get more information with less time and effort and the traditional translation methods such as complete translation are time-consuming and cannot meet the need of target readers,therefore,translators need to pay more attention to the effectiveness and simplicity of the target text and use flexible translation strategies to shake off the constraints of the original texts.This report uses Professor Huang Zhonglian’s Translation Variation Theory to analyze the translation of Chinese cultural-loaded expressions and study translation rule of news texts to improve the readability and practicability of the target texts.There are four strategies of Translation Variation Theory used in the translation practice,which is as follow:using the translation strategy of amplification to add information for implied cultural phrases,using the translation strategy of deletion to delete the useless and redundant cultural information,using the translation strategy of editing to compile the cultural information with loose logic and wrong order,and using the translation strategy of narration to interpret cultural information that cannot be translated literally.The translation practice shows that the Translation Variation Theory plays a good guiding role in the translation of news texts,especially in the translation of Chinese culture-loaded expressions. |
