| The text for this article on English-Chinese translation practices is selected from the third chapter of the pedagogical book Retreat or Resolution ? Tackling the Crisis of Mass Higher Education.The translated part describes the development of British higher education in the past 60 years,which takes an enlightening effect on the China’s higher education.Through the translation of the text,the author knows about the language features of informative text,management policies of British higher education in different periods,the English-Chinese expressions of relevant terms,as well their background knowledge.The translation of vocabulary in the text mainly adopts conversion,extension of meaning and repetition;parenthesis is widely used in the text,the author analyzes its translation from three methods: sequential adjustment,use of parenthesis mark and logical manifestation;in terms of the articulation of the discourse,the author analyzes from two perspectives: reference and conjunction.The author desires to improve his level of translation,to identify and improve his weaknesses,and to serve as a reference for other translators translating similar texts using this report. |
