This report selects the first two chapters in the book From Sanxingdui to Jinsha:Astonishing Discoveries of Chinese Civilization concerning on the translation of culture-loaded words,classical Chinese sentences and run-on sentences distinctively regarding descriptions of bronze statues.In the hope of offering reference for further studies of C-E translation for archaeological texts it focuses more on culture rather than nomenclature of cultural relics and archaeological terminology.Following a strategy of domestication supplemented by foreignization,the study analyzes the translation of culture-loaded words;structural and unit shifts of Catford’s theory of translation shifts are the techniques employed in the translation of classical Chinese texts after an intralingual translation by referring to a multitude of previous notes and commentaries and;this paper also presents some suggestions on how to translate descriptive run-on sentences into English,i.e.combination and absolute structure. |
