| Genome editing technology has become a hot tool in the field of biological science research because of its high accuracy, strong operability, huge market value and other characteristics. The technology is mainly divided into gene therapy and gene enhancement, somatic cell genome editing and reproductive genome editing.Among them, gene enhancement and reproductive genome editing have triggered many discussions and questions:human dignity, technical security that may threaten the dignity of the subject’s right to life, and fairness and justice that may undermine the social basis for safeguarding the dignity of the right. It can be said that today, with the rapid development of genome editing technology, the technology has posed a serious threat to human dignity, which makes the issue of human dignity must be re emphasized. This paper takes Kant’s concept of dignity, known as the"reservoir" of Western philosophy,as the theoretical basis for ethical analysis of the dignity dimension of genome editing. In the face of the two opposing views of "dignity opposition" and "dignity autonomy" on the dignity dimension of genome editing in the academic world,we analyze them separately by emphasizing that human beings enjoy "original dignity" because of their self-discipline potential, and by emphasizing that human beings achieve "realized dignity" differently because of their different degrees of virtue cultivation,Try to find the rationality and legitimacy of genome editing technology within a certain limit.Firstly, gene therapy views humans not only as a means, but also as an end.Under the premise of ensuring the dignity of human life, the original dignity of humans will be effectively safeguarded.Secondly,on the premise of mature technology in the future, gene enhancement will not absolutely deepen social injustice because it goes out of gene determinism. In addition, people can enjoy more dignity and gain more respect through virtue cultivation, which in turn proves the certain rationality of the dignity dimension of gene enhancement. Then,on the basis of Kant’s concept of dignity,we made suggestions on the issues of technical security and fairness and justice closely related to dignity, and provided enlightenment for promoting the healthy development of genome editing:at the macro level,we suggested that we should rethink the relationship between the ethical goal of "good living" and genome editing, strengthen the moral construction of genome editing workers and users, especially carry out responsibility education for genome editing workers,It enables genome editing workers to return to rational values, and also prevents genome editing technology from hitting the red line by improving risk assessment and regulatory system construction,so as to guarantee people’s congenital equal right to respect life.On this basis, people can cultivate virtue and enjoy more"realized dignity".At the micro level,it puts forward suggestions for the specific research and application of genome editing technology:first,it is suggested to vigorously develop genome editing technology to fill the congenital gap of human beings by means of treatment,so as to promote social fairness and maintain the equal dignity that human beings should have;Secondly,it is suggested to constrain genetic enhancement within the joint constraints of law and ethics, promote social justice, and thus safeguard the rights of citizens to freedom, equality, and independence, which is to safeguard the dignity of the people;Third,it is suggested to limit the existing and potential risks of genome editing technology by institutional regulation, strive for a more fair and just social environment for vulnerable groups,so as to safeguard the original dignity of human beings, and also provide strong institutional support and guarantee for the benign development of genome editing technology itself. |
