Gao Ming’s The Story of Pipa plays an important role in the history of Chinese opera. However, the academic research on The Story of Pipa mainly focuses on the version textual research, character image, ideological significance,Qupai vocal music and other aspects, while the research on the evolution of The Story of Pipa in the Qing Neifu opera and local operas is relatively weak. There are a large number of The Story of Pipa scripts with different faces preserved in Neifu and local operas of the Qing Dynasty, which have not been systematically sorted out and studied at present. Therefore, this paper takes the song version of the Qing Neifu and the script of The Story of Pipa in local operas as the research object, and investigates the changes of the texts of the Qing Neifu and local operas in terms of appearance, plot, language and ideological connotation. The first chapter firstly introduces the main versions of Gao Ming’s The Story of Pipa, and at the same time sorts out the versions of the Qing inner government and local operas.Secondly,on the basis of full investigation of the contents of each play, combined with local records and other relevant historical materials, the repertory situation and features of Pipa in the inner court and local operas of the Qing Dynasty were summarized. The second chapter takes the script of The Story of Pipa saved in the Rare Books Series of the Imperial Palace and the Archives Collection of the Qing Palace Shengping Office as the basic material.Through close reading and exploration,it finds that the script of The Story of Pipa collected in the Qu edition of the Qing Dynasty is closer to the folio play of The Story of Pipa collected in the anthology of folk operas. On this basis,it is found that the adaptation of the folk script in Qing Neifu’s The Story of Pipa is mostly embellished and adjusted in details and language. After being processed by the palace opera troupe,The Story of Pipa shows the characteristics of the standardization of the palace opera, and also reflects the nobility of the palace audience. The third chapter is based on the text of The Story of Pipa in local operas, and through the investigation and reading of different versions,it finds that there are some close or distant inheritance relations between The Story of Pipa in local operas and the previous versions: the local operas sung in the form of Qupai are more closely related to the previous versions. On the other hand, the evolution of " The Story of Pipa" in local operas shows that folk operas are more dynamic in adapting opera works.Artists can not only verbally compose opera lyrics according to their own performance experience, but also make flexible adjustments to the plot and language according to the needs of the performance, inadvertently revealing the reality of sarcasm. The evolution of Pipa in local operas reflects the demand of folk audiences for the development of opera performance. The fourth chapter discusses the causes of the evolution of The Story of Pipa from the perspectives of adaptation consciousness, play performance function, aesthetic psychology, style view and so on.It holds that the evolution of The Story of Pipa in the inner court and the folk always revolves around the audience elements in different drama watching environments. At last, the paper discusses the path of "non-canonization" of "The Story of Pipa",and puts forward the regular understanding of the development of the popular culture. The epilogue summarizes the evolutions, evolutions laws and causes of The Story of Pipa in the inner court and among the people, deeply discusses the close relationship between the popular culture represented by The Story of Pipa and different social and cultural ecology in the evolutions process, and reveals the important significance of its evolutions mechanism for the development and prosperity of audiences and local operas. And from the perspective of learning from the past and the present,it reveals the enlightenment of the change of "Pipa" on the modern inheritance and development of traditional local operas.
