Report On The E-C Translation Of "Opposing Positions In M&A Research:Culture,Integration And Performance"

With the expansion of China’s foreign business activities and exchanges and the in-depth development of business research,business research text has gradually become one of the important ways for business people and researchers to know about this field.Thus,such kind of text usually has both academic and business features.The author chose the journal article “Opposing Positions in M & A Research: Culture,Integration and Performance” published in “Emerald” as the translation practice text in this translation practice report.The full text contains about 15000 English words.It took the author 52 days to complete the translation with the help of her classmates,instructors from inside and outside of school,and relevant industry professionals.By analyzing the case text of this project,this report focuses on two situations that should be noted and emphasized in the translation of business academic texts:(1)the principles of understanding;and(2)the strategies of translation.In this report,the author analyzes the main contents of the introductory text,its linguistic characteristics,the translation process,and the problems and issues encountered in the translation process.On this basis,the author uses the “Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation(CEA)” framework proposed by Prof.Li Changshuan and Prof.Shi Xiaojing to analyze translation practice.In the translation process,to better deal with difficulties such as the conflict between form and content and the lack of equivalence in expression,the translator should fully consider the principle of “comprehension” and choose a more appropriate translation strategy.The “comprehension” should be logical and make good use of “internal”and “external” tools.The translation should avoid Euro-Chinese,adjust forms,adapt contents,and accommodate coherence.The report also finds that the translator should fully and accurately understand the original text,convey the original text’s meaning,make necessary adaptations to complete the translation task well,achieve a specific translation purpose,and provide a more reasonable translation for the target readers.Through this report,the author hopes that it can provide some references for translators or translation lovers of this kind.
