C-E Translation Practice Report On The Report On Tourism Development Of China’s Xi Jiang Miao Village (2008-2018) (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Culture is the soul of tourism,and tourism is the carrier of culture.By vigorously developing tourism and making rational use of ethnic cultural resources,Xijiang Thousand Household Miao Village has leapt into a beautiful village with economic prosperity,rich people,beautiful environment and social harmony.This is the successful model of ethnic cultural tourism,named “Xijiang model”,which contains the wisdom,knowledge,experience,methods,strategies,measures,etc.It is a good model that can be used for reference to open a new way of poverty alleviation and sustainable development of ethnic villages through ethnic cultural tourism,as well as a “signature” for Guizhou to promote ethnic culture abroad.The text selected by the translator is Co-construction and Co-creation of Multi-subjects and Application of Folk Wisdom Ten-year Report on Social Governance of Xijiang Thousand-Household Miao Village,with the intention of disseminating its social governance experience,showing the wisdom of local residents and raising the international profile of Xijiang Miao Village.This report examines translation techniques at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels in source language texts,using a case study approach based on the three rules of Skopos Theory.Firstly,under the guidance of the skopos rule,at the lexical level,the translator focuses on the translation of socio-cultural words,linguistic-cultural words and eco-cultural words in the text,and chooses translation strategies such as direct translation,transliteration with notes,co-translation and supplementary components,in order to convey the hidden meanings behind these cultural words,better disseminate minority cultures and achieve the communicative purpose.Secondly,under the guidance fidelity rule,the author analyses the translation of the run-on and compound sentences in the text,starting with splitting and reorganizing the sentences,adjusting their order and analyzing the logical relationships contained in them.The communicative intention of the original text is faithfully conveyed by means of conversion,extension,and conversion of the active voice into the passive voice.Finally,according to the coherence principle,in view of the repetition phenomenon in the text,the translator uses noun substitution,clause substitution and other methods to achieve the coherence of the text.For the connection between texts,the author makes the language more natural and smooth by adding connectives,using prepositional phrases and co-translating.The translation practice report is divided into five main sections: introduction to the task;a review of the Skopos Theory;process of the translation task;case studies and summary of the translation practice.In addition,the translator hopes to convey the social value of the text through this translation,so that the successful experience of social governance in the Xijiang Scenic Area can be emulated;and also to verify the adaptability of the theory to the translation of this text,and provides some value to the re-examination of the theory for the summary report genre.
