A Report On Simulated Chinese-English Consecutive Guide Interpreting At Haikou Qilou Old Street

Haikou Qilou Old Street,built by a group of overseas Chinese who returned from the South Seas in the early 1900 s,is one of the most characteristic street landscapes in Haikou.With the increasing openness of Hainan to the outside world,the Qilou Old Street is gaining more attention from the world,attracting an increasing number of foreign tourists to visit.The building of Hainan Free Trade Port has resulted in more frequent visits to this island.In this context,guide interpreting is more indispensable.The guided tour of the Qilou Old Street is one hour long,which includes the introduction of the architecture,cultural relics,history and customs of the Qilou Old Street,as well as the regulation and guidance of tourists’ behaviors.Based on the content,verbal style and communicative functions of Qilou Old Street tour guide speech,the author chooses Interpretive Theory as the interpreting principles and strategies of the interpreting case with a focus on the analysis of how to apply the theory to the interpretating of run-on sentences,four-character idioms,and proverbs.The author finds that restructuring and amplification are helpful in solving the aforementioned problems.It’s hoped that this report can help other tour guide interpreters to better spread the culture of Hainan province.
