Guo Moruo’s "people oriented" literary and artistic view was formed in the 1940 s and is an important component of Guo Moruo’s literary and artistic thought. In his early years,he received traditional and old-fashioned education in a private school. His interest in traditional culture not only laid the ideological foundation for later historical research, but also added the color of traditional culture to the formation of his literary and artistic ideas. The "people oriented thought" and the traditional sense of patriotism and concern for the people in ancient China provided historical resources for the formation of his "people oriented" literary and artistic outlook. From a practical perspective, the development of Marxism in the wave of Chinese revolution has gradually unified his confused thoughts in the past. After Guo Moruo gradually realized the difference between social reality and romantic imagination, his literary and artistic thoughts shifted. He began to advocate "revolutionary literature" in the late 1920 s.Previously,he had compassion for the people but did not yet know how to truly extricate them from their plight. With the deepening of his understanding of Marxism and during his exile in Japan,he used Marxist historical materialism to study ancient Chinese history, and gained a new understanding of the people from a theoretical perspective. The reality of the War of Resistance Against Japan made him feel the power of the people from a realistic level,so he completely abandoned individualism and rushed towards collectivism, gradually becoming a soldier in the ranks of the proletariat. This article elaborates the main content of Guo Moruo’s "people oriented" literary and artistic view from three aspects. On the issue of the essence of literature and art,Guo Moruo took the "people oriented" thought as the premise, believing that literature and art originated from the people, and that the political nature of literature and art dominated the artistic nature.Regarding the function of literature and art,Guo Moruo believes that under different historical conditions, the function of literature and art is different. From serving the unity and resistance war to meeting the cultural needs of the people,Guo Moruo’s careful observation of the development trend of the times is concentrated. In the theory of literary and artistic creation,Guo Moruo believes that in order to create literary and artistic works that are recognized by the people,it is necessary to take the "people oriented" ideology as the creative principle and realism as the creative method. This article reveals how the "people oriented" literary and artistic concept plays a guiding role in the creation of specific historical dramas from three aspects: subject matter selection, character characterization, and drama connotation disclosure. On the issue of Guo Moruo’s evaluation of historical figures based on the "people’s standard" ideology, this article focuses on analyzing the gains and losses of this standard, pointing out that judging historical figures based on the "people’s standard" ideology has reaped new research perspectives, but there have also been problems such as one-sidedness and subjectivism. Finally, this article reflects Guo Moruo’s "people’s standard" ideology,How to excavate the people’s consciousness in contemporary writers and works is elaborated in detail.
