| The report is based on the translation of Theories of Criminal Law,which was published in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy in 2018.It elaborates criminal law from a variety of macro perspectives,such as the features and functions of criminal law.The article consists of six sections,and the first four sections were chosen as translation materials.Theories of Criminal Law belongs to the legal text written in objective language and rigorous logic with high academic value.A large number of sentences with formal subjects can be seen in the original text,and the huge differences between Chinese and English make it a great challenge for the translator.Therefore,the translator took the translation of sentences with formal subjects as the research object.Under the guidance of skopos theory,the translator analyzed some examples in the source text and discussed the common translation methods applied in the translation of sentences with formal subjects,including division,omission,inversion and substitution.The report is aimed at making further research on the translation of sentences with formal subjects in legal texts.Meanwhile,the translator hopes that the experience accumulated in the translation process can provide some references for the translation of legal texts in the future. |
