The most effective way to gain insight into an enterprise’s development may not necessarily be through its financial statements but rather by delving into its biography.While financial statements can provide a glimpse into the company’s operating conditions,the stories that take place within the business biography are a reflection of the enterprise itself.Life in Lego is a business biography written by Jens Andersen,drawing on materials from the Lego archives and 18 months of interviews with Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen.The book provides an account of the development of the "Danish fairy tale" brand as it expanded globally,as well as the family story behind the company’s growth under Kristiansen’s leadership.Translations of exceptional biographical literature like Life in Lego not only promote cultural exchange but also offer readers valuable insights into the stories behind legendary companies,thereby endowing them with significant social and educational value.This report will utilize the third and fourth chapters of Life in Lego as case studies to examine the reality and literariness of business biographies from the perspective of Skopos theory.The reproduction of reality is analyzed from the aspects of names,cultural information,syntactic logic,and genre functions.The literariness will be categorized into self-reference and indirect denotation and discussed in terms of rhetoric and phonology.Guided by Skopos theory,this report aims to analyze the reality and literary style of business biographies by using specific translation examples to achieve effective communication and promote educational and social functions.The report intends to showcase the guiding role of Skopos theory in translating business biographies from English to Chinese,enhance the quality and readability of translations,and achieve synergy between theory and practice.
