A Practice Report On Conference Interpreting In Beijing Zhongcheng International Company

Against the background of the“the Belt and Road Initiative”,China is more closely connected with the world,and business meetings held by domestic and foreign enterprises are also increasing.Conference interpreting is becoming increasingly important in business activities.In August 2022,Beijing Zhongcheng International Company held a business conference.The author,as an interpreter,is responsible for a consecutive interpreting task.And the participants included the representatives of foreign company and Chinese company and the interpreter.The content of interpreting practice is transcribed as the data for the author’s analysis.The author’s main task at this meeting is to provide language services for both representatives,communicate smoothly with them,transform information effectively,express attitudes and achieve communication purposes in business between both sides.In the pre-interpreting preparation process,the author collected a large number of legal terms related to intellectual property rights and business.After the meeting,the author sorted out the relevant recording materials about the meeting,transcribed them into text materials,and combined with customers feedback,and made a self-evaluation.The author summarizes the three major problems in her interpreting practice: misinterpreting,information loss and logical confusion.The thesis takes Nida’s theory of functional equivalence as the guidance to solve these three problems from the perspective of equivalence at the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels,which are the principle of functional equivalence.The author also probes into the causes of these problems,and puts forward the solutions: omission,paraphrase,amplification and information reformulation.The author analyzes typical interpreting examples,makes a careful assessment about the effect of this interpreting practice.Based on interpreting practice,the author analyzed typical interpreting examples,carefully and rigorously evaluated and analyzed the effectiveness of the interpreting practice.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author reflected on the interpreting practice and improved the quality of the interpreting.Through this interpreting practice,the author has gained a deeper understanding of conference interpreting.This article summarizes corresponding coping strategies for the difficulties encountered by the author in this conference interpreting,which can provide some reference for other interpreters in future conference interpreting.
