Discrimination Of Dong Qichang’s "Imitation Of Su Dongpo’s Poetry Of Yanjiang Mountains And Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy And Painting"

This paper takes Dong Qichang’s "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting" which was auctioned at the "Night Sale of Ancient Paintings and Calligraphy" in the 2020 Beijing Poly Autumn Auction as the research object.By analyzing the differences in Dong Qichang’s running script styles in different periods,this paper compares and analyzes the style of "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting" and explores the authenticity of this auctioned item.The research content of this paper is mainly divided into three parts.Firstly,Providing an overview of the size,calligraphy,painting,inscriptions and seals of Dong Qichang’s "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers:A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting".Secondly,Analyzing the style of Dong Qichang’s running script works in different periods,as well as the regularities of inscriptions and seals in different periods,and determining the approximate period of creation for Dong Qichang’s "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting" by using the coordinate axis positioning method.Thirdly,Studying the brushwork,structure,and composition of the "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting" according to the same period calligraphy style of Dong Qichang,while using Dong Qichang’s painting style,signature and seal patterns,literary works,colophons,and the research results of previous scholars to make a judgment on the authenticity of Dong Qichang’s "Imitation of Su Dongpo’s poetry of Yanjiang Mountains and Rivers: A Scroll Combining Calligraphy and Painting".
