| In the process of digital transformation of education,online teaching and learning in China has ushered in its rapid development.By understanding the experience and lessons of online teaching and learning provided by global colleges and universities,we can improve online teaching and learning in China and help spread these lessons across the country by translating relevant information.That is of practical significance for developing online education in China and realizing education modernization.The text of this translation report is the first three chapters of the third part of a collection of papers on Online Teaching and Learning in Higher Education During COVID-19: International Perspectives and Experiences.The three chapters focus on the impact of COVID-19 on higher education and the experience and lessons learned by university teachers and students in the online teaching and learning process.At the translation stage,the translator finds it challenging to accurately convey many specific words,sentences,and texts.Since the text is informative,the accurate transmission of text information and the realization of communicative effect should be prioritized during the translation of such texts,which matches Newmark’s communicative translation theory.Therefore,based on the theory and the translation experience of previous translators,the translator adopts the following translation skills and methods to solve the translation problems encountered in this process.Firstly,for general words,abstract nouns,terminologies,and proper nouns in education at the lexical level,the translation skills and methods,including extension,conversion,and literal translation,are adopted.Secondly,the change of voices is used in dealing with passive voice.Inversion and division are applied for long and complex sentences.Finally,integration and amplification are mainly employed to ensure cohesion and coherence to make the target text cohesive and coherent at the textual level.This report shows that using communicative translation theory has contributed significantly to guiding the translation of educational papers.In addition,an in-depth analysis of the translation materials is conducted.A typical case discussing the translation skills and methods of its translation difficulties is developed based on the theory,which can serve as a reference for future translators and researchers conducting pertinent research. |
